Anti-Stigma Canvas

These are photographs from my second week of work experience with the Cultural Sisters. I was asked to create a tool for an anti-stigma mental health consultation so that folks in the workshops can indicate who they think their messages are for, a bit like a very fancy-looking survey in my mind.

Because the people using this are adults, I wanted to make something that looked clean and a little bit sophisticated but still keeping a very hand-made textural quality that seems approachable. I just hope nobody else notices that the receptionist looks like they're sitting in a bathtub!

I used lots of green and black poster paint and masking tape on callico fabric and created a series of pockets for participants to put their messages and answers in and used a machine that magically cuts and sews at the same time to make the edges more tactile and defined.

As an artist who works primarily in glass and ceramics for the time being, this was fantastically out of my comfort zone, which is something I love and I even got a chance to give my rusty old graphics skills a bit of a wiggle.

Just need to get everything sewn together and we're winning!
